My Helene Hurricane Survival Story (in short)
I live in Asheville and like everyone else here in Western North Carolina, I am presently recovering from Hurricane Helene.
It’s been one of the most intense journeys.

MY SURVIVOR STORY
After the tree fell on my house, I stayed calm and was able to get out 48 hours later. But looking back, I can see that those first few days I was in shock.
The intensity came a few days later when I was finally able to get out and drive to my Mother’s home 5 miles down the road. Seeing the 200-year-old trees down touched my soul and I was finally able to cry and start to grieve.
I realized that I could have died from that tree had it gone through the house.
For days following, the power and water went out of my home and the water at my parent’s place was also without power and we were told to boil the water.
Within 6 days, I evacuated out the area 2.5 hours away. I have been here for the past several days and it has given me the ability to heal and also support my community from afar.
